  22.      Astrolog is an extensive and customizable astrology chart
  23. calculation program. Astrolog can do standard natal wheel charts,
  24. aspects, midpoints, relationship charts, transits, progressions, and
  25. astro-graphy, as well as local horizon, solar system orbit, and
  26. various influence charts. It supports different zodiacs, central
  27. planets, 12 different house systems, and can display positions of
  28. asteroids, Transneptunians, and several dozen stars. It supports
  29. graphics charts in the X Windows environment, and when compiled on
  30. PC's it can do EGA/VGA/SVGA screen graphics. Charts may be smoothly
  31. animated forward and backward and in real time. Some charts access
  32. the program's own internal map of the world which can be also be used
  33. to a nice animation of a rotating globe! Graphics files may be
  34. generated in X11 bitmap, PC bitmap and other formats. Astrolog can
  35. also do a simple form of deduced interpretations.

  37.      Astrolog version 4.10 supersedes an older version (3.05) that
  38. was posted here in May of 1993. File diffs weren't chosen in this
  39. release due to the enormity of their size and the many changes made
  40. since then. New additions include the ability to optionally access
  41. if available ephemeris files covering over 8000 years for increased
  42. accuracy. Graphics files may now be generated in PostScript and MS
  43. Windows metafile formats in addition to bitmaps. The graphic wheel
  44. charts are much enhanced, and graphical ephemeris and biorhythm
  45. charts may now be done. More of the chart types may be interpreted,
  46. and various new influence charts, planetary rising and setting times,
  47. and calendars are available. This version has a bunch of other
  48. enhancements (e.g. PC mouse support), several bug fixes, and some
  49. general performance improvements.

  51.      The program (pronounced astro-log; astro as in astronomy, log as
  52. is logarithm) works best when run on a Unix system with X windows, or
  53. a DOS system with VGA. However neither X11 nor graphics, or even Unix
  54. or a PC, are needed in order to be able to run the program. The X11
  55. and other graphics features can easily be compiled out for those who
  56. don't have them, and the program can be compiled properly (although I
  57. haven't tested it myself) on VMS and even Mac systems with only a few
  58. modifications necessary.
